John is a giant bully that takes on Magee in a baseball game soon after he gets to Two Mills. He is also part of the Cobras, and anti-black gang. |

Earl is an old man who works at the zoo and seeks out a friendship with Magee. Magee teaches Earl how to read and they build a companionship and home with one another until Earl passes away. |
